Steel Craftsmanship Forges an Energy Monument: Zhengxing Steel Structure Co., Ltd. Embarks on the Glory of the Xibaipo Power Plant Steel Structure Project

Towering over the red soil of Xibaipo, massive steel frame structures, each exceeding 40 meters in height, stand firm. Engineers from Zhengxing Steel Structure Company are welding amidst the flames, forging a new chapter in China's energy construction.

Recently, Zhengxing Steel Structure Co., Ltd. successfully secured the bid for the core steel structure project of the fourth-phase expansion of the Xibaipo Power Plant, marking another significant milestone in the company's endeavors in the power construction sector.

The modernized power plant expansion project, located in a revolutionary site, has a planned total investment of 5.3 billion yuan and will include the construction of two 660 MW ultra-supercritical cogeneration units.

As the core steel structure supplier for the project, Zhengxing Steel Structure Co., Ltd. undertook the design, fabrication, and installation of key steel structures such as the main plant building, boiler frame, and coal conveying system, with a total steel usage expected to exceed 20,000 tons.

01 Project Strategy

Xibaipo, the turning point of China's revolutionary victory, is now ushering in a new chapter in energy infrastructure construction. The steel structure project for the Phase IV expansion of the Xibaipo Power Plant, undertaken by Zhengxing Steel Structure Company, not only demonstrates the company's capabilities but also serves as a solemn commitment to this red land.

The project is located in Xibaipo Town, Pingshan County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. With an annual design power generation capacity of 5.94 billion kilowatt-hours and a heating capacity of 17.664 million gigajoules, it will provide clean thermal energy to 32 million square meters of residential buildings in the Shijiazhuang area upon completion, replacing numerous small coal-fired boilers in the region.

Energy supply is crucial for people's livelihood and well-being, as well as for regional economic and social development. As a key power support point for Hebei's southern power grid, the construction progress and quality of the Phase IV project of the Xibaipo Power Plant directly impact the stable operation of the entire grid.

02 Corporate Strength

"Technical expertise is the key to winning this project," said Zheng Lizhi, Technical Director of Zhengxing Steel Structure Company. The company has obtained certifications for the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

The company employs over 30 registered structural engineers and first-class construction engineers, and has established industry-university-research collaboration bases with multiple universities, continuously driving technological innovation in steel structure engineering.

03 Technical Highlights

In the steel structure project of the Xibaipo Power Plant, Zhengxing Steel Structure Company employed multiple industry-leading technologies. The project team utilized BIM technology for 3D modeling and clash detection, achieving precise optimization during the design phase.

"Through BIM technology, we identified 156 design conflict points in advance, avoiding rework issues during on-site construction," said Wang Qiang, the chief project engineer.

The company has also extensively used high-strength weathering steel materials in the project. This material offers excellent corrosion resistance, effectively extending the service life of steel structures and reducing long-term maintenance costs.

In terms of connection technology, the project employs advanced robotic welding techniques and high-strength bolt connection technology. The application of these technologies not only enhances construction efficiency but also ensures the reliability and stability of connection nodes.

It is worth mentioning that the project team also developed a transportation and hoisting plan for large steel components tailored to this project, effectively addressing the challenges of road transport in mountainous areas and on-site hoisting.

04 Project Management

Faced with such a grand and technically complex project, Zhengxing Steel Structure Company established a comprehensive engineering management system. The company assembled a dedicated project management team, led by the company's deputy general manager in person.

The project management team formulated detailed progress schedules and quality control plans based on the project's characteristics. Weekly project coordination meetings were held to promptly address various issues during construction.

In terms of safety production, the company strictly adheres to the principle of "safety first, prevention foremost" and implements a comprehensive safety production responsibility system for all employees. On-site project teams are staffed with dedicated safety management personnel who regularly organize safety education and training as well as emergency drills.

"Since the project commenced, we have maintained over 200 consecutive days of safe production without any major safety incidents," said Zhao Ming, the project's safety supervisor, with pride.

The quality management system is equally rigorous. From the inspection of raw material arrivals to process quality control and finished product protection, each step has clear control standards and designated responsible personnel.

05 Green Development

The Phase IV project of the Xibaipo Power Plant employs ultra-supercritical power generation technology, with a designed coal consumption for power generation of only 263 grams per kilowatt-hour, significantly lower than the average level of thermal power units nationwide.

Meanwhile, the project simultaneously constructs efficient dust removal, desulfurization, and denitrification facilities, with flue gas emission indicators surpassing the national ultra-low emission standards, achieving clean production.

Zhengxing Steel Structure Company actively implemented the green development concept during the project construction process. The project team optimized the steel structure design plan by adopting lightweight design, reducing steel usage by approximately 8%.

During the construction process, the company promotes the use of energy-saving equipment and techniques, schedules work hours appropriately, and reduces energy consumption and environmental pollution.

"We have established a construction waste recycling system, which categorizes and processes waste generated during construction, achieving a recycling rate of over 85%." said Liu Fang, the project's environmental protection officer.

06 Red Inheritance

Xibaipo is the spiritual highland of the Chinese revolution, where the Xibaipo spirit of "two musts" was born. Employees of Zhengxing Steel Structure Company deeply studied and promoted the spirit of Xibaipo during project construction.

The company organized a project team to visit the Xibaipo Memorial Hall and learn from the excellent style of hard work and struggle of revolutionary predecessors. Integrate the spirit of Xibaipo into project management and construction processes.

We have transformed the spirit of Xibaipo into a driving force to overcome difficulties and solve one technical problem after another, "said project manager Zhang Wei.

This spiritual power not only inspires project teams, but also manifests in engineering construction. The project team overcame difficulties such as complex construction conditions and significant climate change in mountainous areas, ensuring the progress and quality of the project.

The local government departments have also provided strong support for the project construction, creating a favorable external environment for the project.

Several students are holding an oath taking ceremony in front of the memorial hall next to the former site of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, which is only five kilometers away from the Xibaipo Power Plant project site. Behind them, workers from Zhengxing Steel Structure Company are operating large lifting equipment to accurately lift a 30 meter long and 40 ton steel beam into place.

The roar of modern industry and the historical echoes of revolutionary holy land intertwine here, as the project commander said: "We are not only building steel structures for power plants, but also forging a new era energy monument on the revolutionary holy land

When the power plants are fully operational in 2026, strong currents and heat energy will flow inside these steel skeletons, bringing light and warmth to thousands of households.
